Safety Pharmacology

You can rely on the experts at WIL Research for comprehensive safety pharmacology testing services. We’re ready to listen to you and then design just the right studies to help with the registration of novel drugs and filing Investigational New Drug (IND) applications prior to Phase I studies.

We will work with you to evaluate the potential adverse effects of your compound on major organ systems, as well as to assess the QT prolongation. Our experts can perform core battery tests, such as studying the effects on the central nervous system, respiratory system and cardiovascular system, including cardiopulmonary safety pharmacology.

Besides core testing batteries, we can work with you on second-tier testing to further evaluate and develop a greater understanding of mechanistic effects on vital functions. We are also able to evaluate potential adverse effects on other organ systems, such as renal/urinary systems and gastrointestinal systems. Sample capabilities

Core Battery

  • Central nervous system: functional observation battery to detect effects on behavior, coordination sensory/motor reflex and locomotor activity
  • Cardiovascular system: blood pressure, heart rate, ECG and body temperature in conscious telemetered animals
  • Respiratory system: respiratory rate, tidal volume and minute volume; blood gas measurement
  • In vitro electrophysiology: cloned human potassium channels (hERG)

Second Tier

  • Renal/Urinary system: Renal function and general clinical chemistry
  • Gastrointestinal: motility and function
  • Pro-/anticonvulsant screening
  • Enzyme completion/CNS depression
  • Neuromuscular function
  • Sensorimotor reactivity (startle habituation)
  • Neuromotor coordination
  • Learning and memory
  • Drug dependency
  • Nociception assessment
  • Cardiac action potential
  • ECG and MAOPD in the isolate heart
